Carrie Fisher will be missed. As a Princess in a galaxy far far away and everything more important that she was to so many people.

I had thought if she ever came to a con near me, I'd get over my aversion to crowds and go see her speak because she was so brilliant. Man, now it seems really bittersweet with the ST and book bringing her back into the spotlight, it was like a victory lap for her. I'm glad that the ST did start because it's about showing how important Leia was, so she got that tribute.

I know that's not what I should be thinking about, but I had the same thought. I want them to do something worthy of her and I'm worried.

@snufkin

I fear the movies will never truly do the character of Leia justice now, though.

I have so many emotions right now. I guess Star Wars is the least of it when Carrie's family have just lost an amazing daughter, mother, sister. So sad.

I'm a complete ball of a crying mess right now. I was so hopeful yesterday, picturing how she would make hilarious remarks about dying for 15 minutes and coming back.

I'm just so sick right now.

Me too. I guess most of us thought VIII would be "Luke's film", and IX finally Leia's.

I hope Rian will find some way to do her justice, though.

They may have had a plan already in place if her health prevented her from participating in IX. But at least the ST that they did Bloodline, gave her an open mike for the TFA press junket (where she ripped to shreds a lot of the double standards she faced in the OT), made Leia a general and her kid the main one carrying the legacy/Force powers. But it sucks because she's one of those voices (and the ST really amplified hers) that we need in this world, both for her humor and honesty/strength. And it sucks because if nothing else, I personally only really cared about the ST in that Leia could finally have the chance to get her kid back and have something of a personal life where she didn't have to sacrifice another loved one. I think we all like this pairing in part because you know Leia would be a Hell of an awesome MiL to Rey and blunt talking grandmother.

Anyways, this is up there with losing Bowie and Prince - all three geniuses who were also so very human and made the world a better place through their art.

This is terrible news to hear. I don't really know what to say right now. I didn't want to believe at first. Condolenses to Carry's family. My thoughts go to them.
